Mentoring Program
“Mentoring is a concept built on relationships, and it is concerned with extending one’s understanding and knowledge about working with others.”
(Ebbeck and Waniganayake, 2003)
The Mentoring Program provides collaborative support facilitated by an experienced children’s services professional to further develop the service’s quality practices. The aim of the program is to build the capacity of early and middle childhood educators to provide quality education and care for children and their families.
Some strategies employed in this support include:
- Observation
- Collaborative discussion
- Setting goals and formulating strategies to achieve them
- Role modeling
- Succession planning
Positive aspects of having a mentor in the workplace:
- Staff have the opportunity to reflect on their practices and receive feedback
- All staff have an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge
- Increased collaboration within the team
- Mentoring ‘on the job’ ensures learning is relevant and can be put into practice straight away
Mentor support is $15.00 per hour.
